Outback Getaway 2023 – 5 August to 12 August 2023

Way Out West

Friday 4th August 2023

The OBG 23 participants gather for the departure dinner in Toowoomba

Day 1.  Saturday 5th August 2023

We are headed out west for a Seven-day adventure through pristine agricultural land, forests and ‘back blocks.’ Morning tea is near an iconic pub and grand river, then to a remote rural golf club for lunch, games and a chat with the locals. Reignite old acquaintances and get to know new ones with campfire conversations and introductions.                615km (mostly bitumen)

Day 2.  Sunday 6th August 2023

Continuing due West to get away, to an understated location for smoko before immersing ourselves in the prehistoric marvels at the outback’s newest tourist attraction. A short afternoon run to a classic outback town with many varied attractions to explore.         631km (all bitumen)

Day 3.  Monday 7th August 2023

Tall red sand dunes and wide-open spaces are the morning vista until we make a change to dirt roads and discover where a vast river channel squeezes between a gap in the hills. Bonfires, windmills and huge sunsets offer the perfect backdrop for a night’s entertainment at a working cattle station.       526km (mostly dirt)

Day 4.  Tuesday 8th August 2023

Heading predominantly North into the constantly changing scenery of creek crossings and rugged rock covered mountains, we stop for lunch at a quirky little pub in the middle of nowhere. More undulating country to get to a historic park littered with machinery, artefacts and history of the region.             355km (40% dirt)

Day 5   Wednesday 9th August 2023

West again to an abandoned township and mine site. Imagine ‘livin and a-workin on the land’ in these harsh conditions. More great scenery on the way to Queensland’s most famous mining town. Check out the fossilised mammal, mine tour and museum before a drive around the lake and an easy run to go further West than OBG has ever been.          389km (predominantly bitumen)

Day 6   Thursday 10th August 2023

Breakfast and tour of a drover’s camp will set the scene for a morning drive through rugged savanna with spectacular river crossings and an archaeological site. Arriving at our day’s destination in time for lunch, then spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the lagoon and walking tracks. 255km (all dirt)

Day 7   Friday 11th August 2023

A very short drive to the national park where the natural beauty will take your breath away. Hire a canoe or book a tour and spend all day exploring the spectacular Lawn Hill Gorge. Plenty of walks and things to see.

Our tour finishes here with a gala dinner and award presentations.
